In short, BDMV files are Blu-ray Information files. BDMV supports high definition video encoded according to MPEG-2, AVC (MPEG-4 Part 10), and VC-1 specifications. You might find BDMV files from:

• HD Camcorders’ AVCHD folders (BDMV and CERTIFICATE) with M2TS extension files. For Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder, the AVCHD files will bear the MTS extension.


• Blu-ray disk with BDMV folder and files with BDMV extension.


• Ripped Blu-ray DVD movies, the folder structure of which is all contained in a BDMV folder structure with M2TS extension files.


• Blu-ray movie with BDMV & CERTIFICATE folder, one subfolder of the BDMV folder is the Stream folder and in this folder there is a MTS extension file.

How to play BDMV files on Mac?

Players mentioned below might not support all MTS/M2TS file playback, depending on used compression formats in a MTS/M2TS files in BDMV folder.

VLC Media Player is the most popular way to play MTS/M2TS files.

Other Media players for MTS/M2TS playback

Some MTS/M2TS files can be played with ALLPlayer, MPlayer, Windows Media Player, Bsplayer and other media players, depending on used compression formats in a MTS/M2TS file. Some players will need an appropriate codec, component or plug-in installed.

The file type MTS/M2TS is not always automatically associated with the player, so it may be necessary to open it from the player
